If things were my way, I would wear two things in the summer. An all purpose bathing suit and no shoes. Maybe I would need sunglasses or a cover up so I can go into restaurants without violating the ‘no shoes, no shirt, no service’ policy. There is a need for actual clothes in the summer and these are the ones I’ll tolerate when I’m not in my pajamas, watching My So Called Life or at the pool, splashing around like a seal. There’s a practicality to all of these wardrobe pieces and if you don’t have them, you don’t deserve to have a summer. Just kidding. I don’t have all of these either.

headscarves and sea animal jewelry There’s this amazing little place called Little Five Points in Atlanta that is great to shop at. I was at the Clothing Warehouse and Annella taught me the art of headscarves. I have three now, and I wear them with everything. I tie mine willy nilly, but there’s great photos: here and here and here.
I am biased towards sea animals and aquariums and SEA WORLD, but it is the summer and summer means sea. There’s seahorses and sea turtles and seals and dolphins, but I’m partial to octopus jewelry. Find your inner sea animal and wear him (as jewelry)!
sunglasses I never wear sunglasses. I had glasses with transitional lenses which means they tint when I go outside, but my new ones don’t. I love Warby Parker’s glasses. They have a vintage feel and they have cool names. The Jules, Aldous, and Thatcher sunglasses are my favorite. My normal glasses are the Reece in Midnight Blue, in case you were wondering.
asymmetrical tops I don’t mean asymmetrical. I just mean tops that do weird things. Like fishtail/hi-lo tops, or crop tops, or strapless tops, or one sleeve tops. I get so used to normal shirts with two sleeves and a MIDDLE that I forget these other wonky shirts exist.
rompers and lace and sweetheart dresses One piece outfits are effortless. You could go to the beach in a romper and sandals, go to a outdoor concert in a sweetheart dress from XXI with a moto jacket and sneakers, and go out to lunch with your girls in a darling lace dress with sparkly flats. They are loose, breezy outfits for when it’s unbearably hot outside.
sneakers and wedges Besides flip flops, I need a cute pair of sneakers and wedges for frolicking in the summer. I need sneakers for roaming downtown or for thrifting binges or bike riding. Wedges are for brunch, the pool or the hotel during vacation. I spend more on shoes because of my shoe size, but here’s some great sneakers from Payless that I loveeee and kick butt wedges from DSW.
denim vest and polka dot shorts These are DIY projects for me. I’m not paying 50 dollars for a vest. My denim jacket wasn’t even 50 dollars. I’m going to thrift a jacket, rip the sleeves off and call it a day. As for the polka dot shorts, I’ve been trying to make some since school started. Bleach does not work anymore. I don’t know why, it just doesn’t! I wasn’t looking into using fabric paint and when I saw that Holly made these, I was sold.
